Cutting-Edge System Helps Address Outages in Lake Worth Beach, but Sewage Spill Causes Health Concerns

Health alert lifted following sewage spill in Lake Worth Beach in April

Recently, Lake Worth Beach implemented a new outage maintenance system that aims to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of addressing outages in the area. Assistant Director of Systems Operations, Jason Bailey, explained the cutting-edge system to the public.

Unfortunately, a sewage spill near the intersection of the L-10 Canal and Florida Mango Road occurred on April 12th due to a contractor for AT&T damaging a 36-inch subregional wastewater force main. This led to a health advisory for surface water bodies in Lake Worth Beach. However, recent testing by the city and the Florida Department of Environmental Protection confirmed that water quality in the affected areas now meets standards for fecal-indicator bacteria.

Following the spill, residents with concerns about the health effects of wastewater overflow can reach out to the Palm Beach office of the health department at 561-837-5900 or email chd50contactus@flhealth.gov for more information.
